happy halloween

I "heart" Halloween. It's always been my favorite holiday. In elementary school, the administration would turn the lights down low in the cafeteria and play spooking music. One of the student's father was a costume designer and he and others would dress up as frighteningly good werewolves, mummies, etc. and "haunt" the cafeteria. Later in the afternoon our room mothers would show up for our class parties. We'd all change into our costumes and parade through the school ending up back in our rooms for the party. Man, why can't we do that in the office????
Hope everyone has a frighteningly good Halloween.

home is where your heart is

Yesterday morning I woke up with an overwhelming desire to throw out all the stuff that has been accumulating in my apartment. Scrapbook supplies that I've bought and never used, baskets, glass bottles (my obsession). Junk. Just junk. I made some good headway yesterday on the scrapbook stuff and listed a bunch of it on e-bay. Just getting most of it cleaned out made be feel better.

Yet, I still want a house. Or, at least, a place with two bedrooms. And a garage. A garage would be good. Then I get to dreaming of what my "idea house" would look like. It usually looks like this:

And I can't forget that it would include a library such as this:

luggage

There comes a time in every girl's life when she needs a nice set of luggage. I've decided that time has come for me. In light of the holiday season, when I will be traveling over Thanksgiving and Christmas, and with upcoming trips to Disney Land, Chicago and Alaska, what better time to splurge.

So, without further ado, here is my new luggage (because I know you are all wanting to see pictures:)):

* Mom- note that, for the additional pieces, you need to order Ocean Plaid. :)

good conversations

Me: They have a Jane Austen "choose your own ending" book on Amazon.

KK: They should do a Lord of the Rings one, too!

Me: Oh, that’s simple. The LOTR would end with me ascending to the throne next to Viggo and you riding off into the sunset with Orlando. Duh.

KK: Yes, we'd ride off and make little elvin babies.

just the four of us

A week (and three days ago) the first one of us in the our little crew of girls got hitched. It was a happy occasion, but a bit bittersweet. Things will definitely change now, even as we each swear they won't. Life changes and we change right along with it. Our saving grace will the be the monthly "girl's night out" we've pinkie-promised to have. After all, we can't let the boys have all the fun. ;)
Congratulations Heather!

happy october

I love fall. I love October. I love Halloween. My house is already decorated for the holiday and my costume has been bought since August. Daily I peruse the web for spooky things: things to do, stories, etc. I've already picked out some things I want to do. Of course, probably not this year but some Halloween:

Beaufort Ghost Walk

Doomtown @ Rawhide

Nightfall

This is where I need kids! Good thing I have friends to borrow them from. :)

There is just something about Halloween that I love. I remember trick or treating growing up with coats on over our costumes. I remember scaring myself silly reading "scary books" and ghost stories. I loved how the trees shed their leaves leaving a skeleton of its former self to sway in cool breeze. I loved how everything seemed cozier.

Of course, now that I live in the desert, the trees don't lose their leaves, there is no such thing as a "cool breeze" in October and it's hard to feel cozy in a one bedroom apartment in the city. But I try.
