Is Labor Day too early...

...to start decorating for Halloween? Cause I really want to start. I bought quite a bit of new stuff after Halloween last year and can't wait to open it all up.

You're The Bridge

Can't get enough of this song. Just ask my co-workers.

Man & Girl

On my way into the office this morning, I had a thought. Why is it BatMAN and SuperMAN but BatGIRL and SuperGIRL? I mean, if it's MAN shouldn't it be WOMAN? Or, should it be BatBOY and SuperBOY?

Also, I'm eating leftover birthday cake for breakfast. It's yummy.

I blew out my flip flop...

Spent Saturday night in Glendale. Went to dinner at Margaritaville and had every intention of exploring the rest of Westgate but just didn't make it. Margaritaville was too much fun. Cool atmosphere, awesome people watching, great cover band.

And now, 36 hours later, I still have Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville on my brain. That's what happens when you hear the song 10+ times in a 5 hour timeframe.

the chick flick

I got this cool DVD as a birthday gift...can't wait to go home and watch it. Tempted to pop into into the DVD drive at work and pretend to work while I watch, but that would be wrong. Right? (By the way, The Chick Flick is an all-female wakeboarding doc.)

Speaking of wakeboarding, I have a 5:00AM lake call tomorrow morning. Sweeet. Glass.

Later.

ETA: My drive at work won't play DVDs...I tried. Time to bribe the IT boys.

Surprise

Even though my birthday isn't until next week, my crazy crew of friends decided to surprise me on Saturday night with a birthday dinner. This is how it all went down: Kirst and I decided to go see X Files Saturday night. She suggested we go to dinner first and then asked where I would like to eat. I chose Texas Roadhouse because I had never been there and it looked like my kind of place.

Fast forward to Saturday night. The restaurant is PACKED when we walk it but, oddly, we are immediately shown to a table. I'm walking behind Kirst and her husband so I don't notice for a moment that the table the hostess has brought us to is full. Full of people I know. Full of people I love dearly. Full of people who used to be my friends. Upon seeing me, they burst into a rousing, unique and not altogether in tune (or in unison) version of "happy birthday."

We all settle down into the meal and, sure enough, the balloon guy comes by. Needless to say, Cory had the balloon maker craft me a 'birthday crown' with the number 32 on top. It was ginormous!
Then, just when I thought everyone had stopped looking at me, the waitress rolls up a saddle. Yes folks, a SADDLE. I refused to get on it for several moments until the waitress informed me she, and her band of cohorts, weren't going anywhere until I got on it. Seeing how my getting on the saddle was the only way to get rid of the crowd around our table (who, incidentally became louder and louder the longer I refused to get on the saddle), I climbed aboard. And now have photographic proof that I succumb easily to peer pressure.

Despite the total embarrassment, it was a good night. Thanks to my crazy crew of friends. Whom I might continue to claim...if they redeem themselves properly.

Waveyard

First, let me say tomorrow will be a fun day on the ole' blog as I share with you photos of the complete and utter embarrassment bestowed upon me this past week by my "friends"- and I use that term loosely.

Until then, let me share with you another exciting tidbit of news. A municipal golf course and park are being torn down at Dobson and Rio Saldo (8th) in Mesa to make room for the Waveyard. Now, I didn't know about this beautiful gift of aquatic goodness until yesterday. Believe me, this is one construction zone I am happy to combat everyday simply because the end result will be freaking AMAZING (and on my way home from work each day).

What exactly, you ask, is a
WAVEYARD? Well, check out the link and see for yourself, but for a quick over, it's:
* A totally bad A water park with a wave pool, wakeboarding tow line, white water river for rafting and kayaking, a tank/area for snorkeling and scuba diving
* Residences (which I really want to own...well, at least ONE)
* Resort
* Shopping
* Dining

Did I mention the park will house a wave pool for surfing and a wakeboarding tow line? Yep, I'm excited.

Breaking Dawn

I ensconced myself in my apartment Saturday to finish the fourth and final book of the Twilight series (I hate that the publisher is using the word "saga"). It was okay but not what I had expected. The first book in the series wove such a magic spell that I was sure the author couldn't keep it up for three more books. New Moon wasn't bad and Eclipse was just okay, but I was a bit disappointed in Breaking Dawn. However, unlike the hordes of fans and critics out there who are ripping this novel apart, I did enjoy it. It's just a book, people. Get over it.

I have to say that I'm a little sad to see Bella and Edward go. :)

Bubba's

One thing I love about going to Wyoming every summer is eating a Bubba's. Some might consider this anticlimatic and bit obssessive, but I live for my yearly dinner at Bubba's. I love the straw on the floor. I love drinking out of mason jars. Heck, I even love getting the BBQ sauce ALL OVER THE PLACE. It just don't get better than Bubba's.

Chapel of the Transfiguration

This little chapel, located in Teton National Park, is one of the most stunningly beautiful churches I've ever seen (and I've seen some amazing old churches...Notre Dame Cathedral being one). There are several elements that contribute to it's beauty: it's location against the backdrop of the Tetons; it's rugged log architecture; it's simplicity. Built in 1925, the chapel still still offers Sunday services. I desperately wanted to sit awhile and contemplate as I stared through the window at the Tetons but there were too many people. :(
